Argosy Console Inc. is seeking a skilled Wood Finisher & Finish Carpenter to join our production team. This role combines expert finishing techniques with precision finish carpentry and trim installation. The ideal candidate has a strong eye for detail, a steady hand, and the craftsmanship required to produce premium hardwood consoles and studio furniture.

This position is responsible for surface preparation, stain and clear-coat application, precision trim work, edge detailing, final fitment, and ensuring each piece meets Argosy’s high standards of aesthetic and structural quality. The right candidate takes pride in tight joints, seamless trim, flawless finishes, and production consistency.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. regularly
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and squat for extended periods.
  • Capable of operating hand and power tools safely.

Must Have

  • Highschool Diploma or GED (preferred, but often not required)
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Legal authorization to work the country
  • Reliable transportation to jobsite or facility

Work Conditions

  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Willingness to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Comfortable working in noisy, dusty, or in a physically demanding environment. 

Wood Finishing

  • Sand, prep, and condition hardwood surfaces for stain and clear coats
  • Apply stains, lacquers, oils, polyurethanes, and specialty finishes
  • Perform finish corrections (dust nib removal, runs, uneven tone) 
  • Maintain finishing equipment (HVLP sprayers, compressors, sanding tools)

Finish Carpentry & Trim

  • Install and fit hardwood trim, edge banding, moldings, and face frames  
  • Execute tight miter joints and seamless corner assemblies
  • Perform precision measurements and layout for trim applications
  • Assemble and install detailed components with clean, flush fitment 
  • Conduct final adjustments to doors, panels, drawer fronts, and hardware

Quality Control

  • Inspect completed pieces for alignment, finish consistency, and craftsmanship  
  • Identify and correct cosmetic or structural imperfections
  • Ensure production pieces meet Argosy’s premium aesthetic standards 

Craftsmanship Qualities 

  • Exceptional attention to detail  
  • Ability to produce tight, clean joints
  • Understanding of grain direction and aesthetic flow  
  • Consistency in production environments  

Technical Skills

  • Advanced sanding and surface prep techniques   
  • Proficiency in stain matching and finish application  
  • Strong finish carpentry experience (trim, molding, face frames, edge work)  
  • Experience with hardwoods (walnut, oak, maple, etc.)
  • Ability to read shop drawings and cut lists  
  • Skilled with table saw, miter saw, routers, sanders, nailers, and finishing equipment
  • Knowledge of wood movement and proper joinery techniques

Safety & Organization

  • Familiarity with shop safety and PPE requirements
  • Clean and organized work habits  

Preferred Experience (Not Required)

  • 3+ years in furniture finishing or finish carpentry
  • Experience in high-end cabinetry or custom furniture manufacturing  
  • Spray finishing experience (HVLP preferred)
